Save Some Ink on Everyday Draft Printing

These days every penny counts, and even small cost savings can add up over time. And, we all know how expensive printer ink and toner is these days, so a way to make those cartridges last just a litter longer can definitely help contain costs.

That’s where Spranq’s Ecofont comes in. This font is specially designed with little holes in the letters, so that printing documents in Ecofont uses less ink (about 20% less according to the website). With small type fonts, between 9 and 12 point, you’ll hardly notice the difference on the printed page.

Obviously, Ecofont isn’t for projects requiring a high-quality output. But, it’s ideal for printing a reading draft of anything from a letter to a 100+ page report. Combine it with your printer’s “draft” setting for even more ink savings.

You can download Ecofont here. The free version is a single sans-serif TTF (True Type Font) for Windows Vista, Windows XP, Mac OS X, and Linux called “Spranq eco sans.” The site provides some background on the font, as well as a FAQ for troubleshooting and installation.

Give it a try. You’ll save some ink, save some money, and print “green” as well.

Hint: You may not like the way Ecofont appears on your screen. If this is the case, simply create your document in your usual font. When it’s time to print a draft, select all (Ctrl + A for Windows) then switch the font to “Spranq eco sans.” When you’re done printing undo the font change (Ctrl + Z for Windows).
